The Association of Vehicle Rental Companies in Quintana Roo State has identified 14 individuals who are illegally renting out vehicles to tourists through Airbnb. According to Luis Dzul, the president of the association, these individuals are not adhering to legal requirements.
The association is collaborating with the Institute of Mobility of the State of Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) to penalize these individuals. Dzul emphasized that many of these illegal rentals involve vehicles without license plates and insurance. Some vehicles do have plates, but they are private ones.
Dzul expressed concern over the negative impact this has on legitimate businesses, saying, "Like the hoteliers, this represents a loss for us, because of the vehicles. They say that the vehicle is included, but they are charging for it."
He further stressed the risk to tourists, as these vehicles do not meet the necessary safety standards. "Therefore, in the event of an accident, users are left unprotected," he warned.
The association is currently gathering evidence against these individuals, with the aim of enabling Imoveqroo to take action soon.
