LIGHTNING-STRUCK BOAT RESCUED BY MEXICAN NAVY

Two boats on the open sea; a white sport fishing boat with people on top and a grey military-style vessel with number 101 on the side.

The Mexican Navy, in its role as the Coast Guard, has reported that it provided assistance to 13 people aboard a boat that was struck by lightning near Palancar Gardens beach in Cozumel, Quintana Roo.

The incident was reported to the Command and Control Room of the Fifteenth Naval Zone. The boat, named "SEA ROSE", experienced propulsion system failures after being hit by lightning. It was located one nautical mile from Palancar Gardens beach in Cozumel, Quintana Roo.

In response to the incident and to ensure the safety of life at sea, a Defender-type boat and an Interceptor Patrol from the Naval Station of Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR) Cozumel and the Fifteenth Naval Zone were dispatched immediately.

Upon reaching the distressed vessel, they found the crew in good health. The rescue team then escorted the "SEA ROSE" in a convoy to a safe port in Cozumel.
