Cancún, Mexico — The artistic community of Quintana Roo is in mourning following the death of sculptor Federico Cantú, affectionately known as Xikincho, which occurred on August 27. His passing has left a profound void among family, friends, and colleagues, who remember him as a tireless creator whose art transcended borders.

For decades, Xikincho dedicated his life to carving characters, animals, and scenes from stone, works that are now part of the state's cultural heritage. His legacy can be appreciated in both private collections and public spaces, most notably the imposing sculptures of pre-Columbian warriors that form part of the Xcaret park, some of which took him up to two years to complete.

"With the rhythm of the tap, tap, tap of his chisel, he transmitted peace, patience, and joy," recalled those close to him, noting that these qualities marked not only his creative process but also his personal life.

In the wake of his sudden passing and the expenses derived from his funeral, family and friends initiated a fundraiser on the GoFundMe platform under the name "Honrando la vida y legado de Federico Cantú (Xikincho)" (Honoring the Life and Legacy of Federico Cantú (Xikincho)). The goal is to raise 100,000 pesos to support his partner, Hanne.

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign so that more people can celebrate the life and work of Federico," expressed Bianca Pérez, the organizer of the collection.

The artistic community has also invited the public to celebrate and promote Xikincho's work through his Instagram account, where pieces are still available for sale, as another way to support his family and preserve his art.
