Cancún, Mexico — A man was executed by gunfire in the early hours of Sunday in the informal settlement of El Sheriff, in Cancún's Region 236. The victim was traveling on a motorcycle carrying two televisions when he was intercepted by hitmen.
Residents of the area stated they heard at least five gunshots around one-thirty in the morning on a dirt road in the aforementioned colony, near Rancho Viejo Avenue and the Arco Vial. Upon leaving their homes, they found the man gravely wounded and reported the situation via the 911 emergency number.
An ambulance arrived at the site, but paramedics confirmed the victim no longer showed any vital signs. The body was subsequently covered with a surgical sheet. The area remained under heavy guard by federal forces and municipal police while the corresponding procedures were carried out.
According to initial reports, the deceased was overtaken by two individuals who were also traveling on a motorcycle. The assailants shot him repeatedly until he was left dead on the dirt road.
Municipal Police and elements of the Secretary of the Navy cordoned off the area to facilitate the work of the Investigative Police and experts from the State Attorney General's Office. Later, a tow truck removed the motorcycle, while the body was transported to the Forensic Medical Service for the legally required autopsy.
Ministerial agents collected testimonies from neighbors with the aim of clarifying the circumstances of the attack. It is currently unknown whether it was a direct execution, an attempted robbery, or if the victim was involved in some crime related to the televisions he was transporting.
Authorities continue their investigations to locate those responsible.
