Playa del Carmen’s Patriotic Videomapping Lights Up City Hall

Playa del Carmen, Q. Roo. — Mayor Estefanía Mercado of Playa del Carmen, accompanied by dozens of residents, enjoyed the projection of a videomapping show with themes alluding to Mexico's patriotic holidays and history. The display was projected onto the facade of the old City Hall, where tradition and technology fused in a unique spectacle for locals and visitors.

In this context, Mayor Estefanía Mercado announced that for the first time, Playa del Carmen will relocate the celebration of the Cry of Independence from the City Hall, choosing the Mario Villanueva stadium as the venue. The event will combine music, technology, and tradition and is expected to draw an estimated 50,000 residents and visitors who will also enjoy a free concert by the group Frontera.

"We are making history by moving this tradition to a larger space. We have national tourists and visitors from other states who come exclusively to enjoy the Cry at the Mario Villanueva stadium," she stated.

The mayor emphasized that the new location will allow more people to enjoy the spectacle without space restrictions, as the traditional event site, Plaza 28 de Julio, has limited capacity.

"Starting at five in the afternoon, local merchants and artisans will offer their products around the stadium so that families can enjoy food and activities before the Cry of Independence Ceremony and the performance by the group Frontera," she added.

The program also includes a performance by Macario Martínez, who has caused a furor on social media, as well as a drone show. Estefanía Mercado stressed that these activities foster citizen participation, strengthen tourism, and stimulate the local economy.

"We want families to experience a safe, cultural, and memorable September 15. It will be a spectacle that no one will forget," she concluded.

The videomapping was presented at 8:00 PM and 9:30 PM on Sunday night and will be projected again on September 15 at 8:30 PM in Plaza 28 de Julio.
