Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Municipal, naval, military, educational authorities, and civil society commemorated the 178th anniversary of the Heroic Deed of the Boy Heroes of Chapultepec with a civic ceremony in Plaza 28 de Julio that included a roll call of honor, a rifle salute, taps, and the singing of the Mexican National Anthem, the State Anthem, and the Anthem of the Heroic Military College.

Representing the municipal president, the honorary president of DIF, Eduardo Asencio, delivered a message in which he highlighted that September is the month of the nation and an opportunity to reflect on our roots and the historical processes that gave us our identity.

He underscored that the Fourth Transformation is led by women who inspire pride and confidence: President Claudia Sheinbaum, Governor Mara Lezama, and Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, who represent strength, vision, and sensitivity to guarantee social justice, democracy, liberty, and prosperity.

“From the beginning of this government, we assumed the commitment to continue working with results, with firmness, with tireless dedication, and, above all, with love for Playa del Carmen. This month of September inspires us to keep alive the memory of those who preceded us and to strengthen our conviction to build a more just and united municipality and country,” he expressed.

For his part, Major Félix Salinas González, representative of the Military Zone, who led the roll call of honor for the cadets Juan de la Barrera, Juan Escutia, Vicente Suárez, Francisco Márquez, Fernando Montes de Oca, and Agustín Melgar, recalled that their sacrifice “is an example for the new generations.”

“The freedom that our homeland’s heroes built with their lives is what we must now exercise with success and responsibility. Let us not allow crime to damage our youth; let us work in education, sports, science, and the arts to forge a better future for Mexico,” emphasized the Army command.

Prior to the ceremony, the chief officer of the City Council, Guillermo Brahms González, crowned and bestowed the “Señorita Independencia 2025” sash upon Lisset Guadalupe Ávila.

The ceremony was attended by Carlos Montesinos, Municipal Secretary of Citizen Security; Rear Admiral José Alberto Rodríguez Cuevas, representing the Naval Zone; Captain Alberto Juárez Fernández, of the National Guard; Martha Nieto Hernández, of the Port Captaincy; as well as councilwomen Alma Rodríguez and Josefina Muza; and students from the Ignacio Zaragoza Secondary School.
