CANCÚN, MX — Residents of the Villas del Mar III subdivision discovered the body of a fetus, estimated to be between seven and eight months gestation, inside a bag on Thursday morning.
The report was generated around 9 a.m. in Region 248, on Paseo Petunia street, just meters from the intersection with Kabah Avenue.
Municipal Police officers and members of the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (Geavig) arrived at the site and confirmed the discovery of a fetus in an advanced state of gestation. They subsequently requested the presence of paramedics from the Red Cross.
According to initial inquiries, area residents stated they did not know who could have abandoned the bag at that location. However, it was reported that surveillance cameras exist in the area, which will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
Following the discovery, municipal authorities notified the State Attorney General's Office (Fiscalía General del Estado), which ordered the recovery of the fetus for transfer to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).
