CANCÚN, QRoo — The organization Ocean Conservancy has announced a series of beach cleanup events across various locations in Quintana Roo, including Cancún, Tulum, Cozumel, and the Riviera Maya, to be held during the months of September, October, and November.

In Cancún, activities will commence on September 20 at Tortugas and Gaviotas Azul beaches, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. In Tulum, the cleanup will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., while in Cozumel it is scheduled for October 11 at Punta Sur. The Riviera Maya cleanup will take place on October 25.

Araceli Ramírez, a representative for Ocean Conservancy, stated that the events aim to raise public awareness about the effects of plastics and waste on marine and terrestrial ecosystems, as well as to gather information to strengthen conservation programs.

Volunteers are instructed to attend wearing comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. They should also bring their own breakfast and a reusable water container. Participants must follow staff instructions to protect local flora and fauna during the cleanups.

In 2024, thanks to the participation of 2,240 volunteers, Ocean Conservancy collected 9,224 kilograms of waste across 84.75 kilometers of coastline, removing more than 70,000 pieces of trash. These actions, supported by local alliances and established protocols, have been recognized for their positive impact on environmental conservation.

The organization invites all citizens to join these events, reaffirming a commitment to the protection of the seas and the creation of cleaner, more sustainable environments in Quintana Roo.
