Cancún, Mexico — The city of Cancún has registered significant growth in recent years in the realm of theater, boasting high-level infrastructure. As a result, artistic companies and groups from diverse segments find it attractive to perform on the stages of this tourist hub, which maintains an important cultural and artistic agenda.

Carlos Arturo Aguilar, director of the company "Turisteatro," which hails from Puebla, recognized the work of municipal authorities to help Cancún grow in the cultural and artistic sphere.

"You have the October 8th Theater with everything necessary to mount a professional production, but also the city theater," he said.

He further acknowledged that the weekly artistic and cultural schedule is impressive, something that was not seen before. For this reason, many independent artistic groups are seeking to bring their works to Cancún, because there is an audience eager for new proposals, he assured.

Consequently, on Saturday, September 13th, and Sunday, September 14th, the work "The House of Bernarda Alba" by Federico García Lorca will be presented at the October 8th Theater, featuring 11 artists on stage.

He explained that it is a literary work of great renown, which masterfully addresses various themes such as mourning, oppression, and conflicts that, despite advances in feminism, still occur within the family unit.

"We are living through great advances on the part of women, thanks to their strength, but still in some regions and populations, the same situations exist as in 1936, the year García Lorca wrote the work," he stated.

The story tells of Bernarda Alba, who, upon being widowed, imposes a rigorous eight-year mourning period on her five daughters, marking a life of confinement and repression. The interest of one of the characters, Pepe el Romano, in Angustias, the eldest daughter of Bernarda Alba, unleashes tensions among the sisters and especially in Adela, the youngest.

The story exposes with harshness the dilemmas between individual freedom and social norms, in a profoundly human narrative that moves and surprises.
