TULUM — Diego Castañón Trejo, the municipal president of Tulum, delivered his first government report during a public and solemn City Council session. The event was attended by representatives of the state's three branches of government—Executive, Legislative, and Judicial—along with state authorities, legislators, municipal presidents, special guests, and citizens.

In his address, the mayor emphasized that his administration's work has been oriented toward building trust and responding to the population's needs under the principle of "Mexican humanism," placing people at the center of every decision.

"Serving Tulum with preparation, vocation, and passion has been the greatest commitment of my life. This first year we have dedicated to listening to the people, to building trust, and to working under the principle of Mexican humanism," he stated.

During his speech, Castañón Trejo emphasized that the municipal government advances with honesty and from a commitment to the people, not the elites, stating that "when we unite and set aside false divisions, we understand that the true enemy lies in injustice."

Furthermore, he highlighted that there are advances in public security due to the "Blindaje Tulum" program, but it is only the beginning and it is a daily battle they decided to wage "with firmness and without hesitation," acknowledging that confronting crime is the greatest challenge of his administration.

"We did not come here to administer problems, but to solve them. And if we had to confront fear, we are doing it, and if we had to inconvenience interests, we took action, and if we had to risk our lives for the peace of this town, we also made that decision," he expressed.

He also recalled the assassinated former municipal Secretary of Security but stated that this would not stop them from continuing to deal hard blows to crime.

"We knew that crime would not stand idly by. The assassination of Captain Roberto Rodríguez Bautista, our Secretary of Public Security, was more than an attack; it was a cowardly attempt to stop the progress we were achieving," he added.

On another matter, he highlighted that the transformation is visible in paved streets, dignified neighborhoods, and attended spaces with an investment of more than 160 million pesos in public works. He also emphasized the paving of more than 120,000 square meters of roadways, street lighting, and the organization and connection to the drainage system of neighborhoods that for years had been neglected.

In this sense, he underscored that Tulum is moving toward a future with justice, order, modernity, identity, and pride, where hope is reflected in families living with security and young people finding opportunities.

"Tulum has already changed, it has already awakened and it will not go backward. The past will not return; the future has already begun. Let's go with all of Tulum, because when the people unite, nothing can stop them," expressed the municipal president.

Concluding, he thanked Governor Mara Lezama, deputies, as well as civil society for accompanying him in this solemn act and advanced that the second year of government will be focused on the consolidation of a "stronger Tulum" and "shared prosperity."

For her part, Governor Mara Lezama recognized the work of the municipal administration and highlighted Tulum's growth as a tourist destination of international reach.

"I attended the First Report of the municipal president of Tulum, Diego Castañón Trejo, who, together with his great team, works every day so that this municipality lives the transformation of the people. Tulum is consolidating itself as one of the fastest-growing destinations in Latin America, driven by its natural beauty, its commitment to well-being and the environment, as well as its growing air connectivity thanks to the imposing International Airport," she stated.

The protocol event was attended by state authorities, legislators, representatives from various municipalities, and inhabitants of Tulum, who heard the balance of the first year of management and the objectives set for the next stage of the administration.
