CANCÚN, Mexico — A violent assault that occurred on the morning of September 6 at kilometer 4+500 in Cancún's Hotel Zone, where a young cameraman was beaten and robbed of his professional camera, has raised alarms regarding security in one of the area's most frequented points for tourists and workers.

According to the official report from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit of Benito Juárez, the incident was detected via C5 surveillance cameras, prompting the immediate mobilization of the Tourist Police. Unit 5098, under the command of Officer Gutiérrez Ramos Rafael, arrived at the scene where the National Guard, with Officer Leilani Rosas Fuentes and her team, was already present.

The victim, identified as Cristhopher Iván Esparza Almazán, a 24-year-old native of Cancún, reported that he was attacked by a stocky man with dark complexion, dressed in black and wearing a cap, who struck him in the face and took his work equipment.

The young man is recovering but faces the difficult loss of his equipment, which is indispensable for his professional work.

Municipal and federal authorities confirmed that patrols are already being conducted in the hotel zone to locate the criminal, while coordination with the C5 is maintained to track the responsible individual using video surveillance cameras. The objective, they assured, is to apprehend him and ensure that such acts do not go unpunished, sending a message of immediate response to the citizenry and those who visit Cancún.
