Drug Bust on Cancún-Tulum Highway: Suspect Held

Cancún, Q. Roo. — A man identified as Mario Alberto "N" was detained on suspicion of crimes against public health by investigators from the Secretary of Citizen Security during a surveillance operation in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

The incident occurred on the dirt shoulder of the right-hand slow lane of the Cancún-Tulum highway, where officers were conducting preventative patrols. It was at this location that they observed an individual manipulating and sniffing small plastic bags near the trunk of a gray Audi vehicle, which prompted an immediate inspection.

During the search, authorities secured a fanny pack containing 60 small transparent plastic bags with apparent marijuana, in addition to two mobile phones and a gray Audi A4 vehicle with license plates from the state of Quintana Roo.

Both the detainee and the seized items were turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office Combating Drug Trafficking (Fiscalía Especializada en Combate al Delito de Narcomenudeo), where his legal status will be determined in the coming hours.
