MEXICO CITY — In her first government report, President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted an investment of 180 billion pesos to restore passenger rail service in Mexico, a key project of the Fourth Transformation. Among the works in development are the Tren Maya freight line, the Tren Interoceánico, and new routes that will connect Mexico City with Pachuca, Querétaro, and other cities.
She emphasized that projects initiated by her predecessor, former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, have also been completed, such as the hotels and visitor centers for the Tren Maya, strengthening national infrastructure and stimulating the transport of goods and passengers.
Within the framework of her first government report, Sheinbaum detailed that in her first 11 months in office, construction has begun on the Tren Maya freight line with its branch to the port of Progreso, Yucatán. Furthermore, military engineers are developing the Oaxaca-Chiapas and Roberto Ayala-Paraíso, Tabasco, sections of the Tren Interoceánico, a project aimed at boosting the transport of goods between Asia and the east coast of the United States.
The president added that the railway bypass in Nogales, Sonora, is under construction, and work has already begun on the trains that will connect Mexico City with Pachuca and with Querétaro.
Likewise, trains running from Saltillo to Nuevo Laredo and from Querétaro to Irapuato will begin development this month.
Claudia Sheinbaum Concludes AMLO's Pending Works
During her first government report, President Claudia Sheinbaum managed to conclude works started by her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and indicated she will continue with the development of trains throughout the country, as well as the strengthening of ports and airports.
Within the framework of her first government report, Sheinbaum detailed that in her first eleven months in functions, all the hotels of the Tren Maya in the southeast were completed. Likewise, the four visitor centers near the same train were finished, along with a series of highways in Oaxaca.
“When there is no corruption, the money goes further,” assured Sheinbaum.
In the first year of the government, the current administration also finished the Escárcega-Chetumal section of the Tren Maya, thereby completing the construction cycle of said railway project, at least in its passenger transport branch.
