QUINTANA ROO, Mexico — The Maya Train project continues to be a significant pillar for job creation in the southeastern region of Mexico. While the number of available positions has shown a notable reduction, the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare of Quintana Roo, Verónica Salinas Mozo, reported that there are currently 1,200 vacancies available from the 3,800 initially offered to ensure the train's operability.
Since its launch, the Maya Train has generated significant employment interest in cities such as Chetumal, Playa del Carmen, and Cancún. The majority of these vacancies have been promoted through job fairs, focusing on operational positions essential for the functioning of this ambitious federal project.
Salinas Mozo highlighted that, although the current offer has been reduced compared to the construction period, the project managers have maintained a policy open to hiring personnel from outside the state. This approach has allowed citizens from other parts of the republic to come to Quintana Roo in search of employment opportunities they could not find in their places of origin.
The decrease in the number of vacancies is understandable, given that during the initial stages of the project the labor of up to 5,000 workers, primarily bricklayers, was required to carry out various construction activities.
"At this moment, we have a labor offering of 3,800 positions across the state, of which we have already filled 1,600," explained the official, who added that the remaining vacancies continue to be offered as needed.
Regarding remuneration, salaries are determined based on the nature of the work performed and the educational level of the employees. These range between two and five minimum wages, depending on the specific characteristics of each position, reflecting both the diversity of jobs and the project's commitment to offering competitive working conditions.
The Maya Train, beyond being an infrastructure project, is positioned as an engine for economic and social development in Quintana Roo, contributing to job creation and the strengthening of the local economy.
