Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The iconic Babe’s Noodles & Bar, located in the center of Playa del Carmen, has announced the closure of its doors through its social media channels, promising a return in the near future.

Through its Instagram account, the restaurant and bar, known for its fusion of Asian and European cuisine, stated that as of Monday, September 1, its service would be suspended for an indefinite period.

“We inform you that we will be closing our doors indefinitely as of this September 1st. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you all these years; we are very grateful for your patronage through good times and bad. We trust we will see each other again in our beloved Playa del Carmen in the near future,” the statement read, written in both Spanish and English for its foreign clientele.

It is worth noting that Babe’s Noodles & Bar is an establishment with over 20 years of service in Playa del Carmen. Since its opening in the year 2000, it won the affection of the local public and became a mandatory stop for tourists.

Babe’s Noodles & Bar offered a unique fusion of Asian cuisine flavors, specializing in Thai with European touches. This unusual and well-executed blend of flavors is what attracted diners of all nationalities for years. Its star dishes were the noodles and its Pad Thai, considered the best in the area. It also offered the famous Swedish meatballs, which surprised everyone who tried them, serving as a nod to the heritage of one of the founders. The owners are originally from Sweden and Mexico, which gave each dish a unique touch.

Beyond being a restaurant, Babe’s Noodles & Bar was considered a cultural space, having hosted art events, fashion shows, concerts, and more. One example was a painting class dubbed “Art and Mojitos,” organized by sculptor Carlos Becerra, which demonstrated that anyone can paint if they let themselves be guided by their emotions.

Although it will be missed in Playa del Carmen, all is not lost. Patrons can still visit its branch located in Mérida, Yucatán, at Parque Santa Lucía in the city center. Its hours are Monday through Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
