Cancún — The State Attorney General’s Office has announced the capture of a criminal cell linked to drug dealing and at least three homicides that occurred in Cancún during the month of August.

State Attorney Raciel López Salazar revealed that among those detained is Leonardo N, alias “El Leo,” identified as the leader of the criminal group and the owner of a handicraft stall in Market 28, which was used as a front for drug sales. Along with him, Carlos N, alias “Charly,” Adrián N, alias “Lucho,” and Luis Ángel N were also taken into custody.

According to the investigation, Leonardo N and Adrián N are believed to be connected to three recent murders. The first occurred on August 4 in the supermanzana 61 area, where a homeless man was killed after attempting to rob one of the drug dealers. The victim was tied up and beaten to death.

One day later, in supermanzana 66, a man identified as Daniel was found burned to death inside a vehicle. The attorney detailed that Adrián N transported the body and subsequently set the vehicle on fire in the Crucero area.

The third homicide was registered on August 7 in supermanzana 27, where a body was found bagged and still unidentified. According to the investigation, the victim had allegedly stolen drugs valued at up to 45,000 pesos, which led to his execution.

The four detainees were presented before a control judge, who ordered the precautionary measure of mandatory pre-trial detention while their legal status is determined.
