Playa del Carmen, Mexico — In anticipation of the upcoming low season in September and October, the Playa del Carmen Secretariat of Tourism is preparing a promotional strategy focused on the domestic market and cultural activities designed to maintain tourist traffic in the destination.

Estefanía Hernández, the Secretary of Tourism for Playa del Carmen, highlighted that the three primary markets for the Mexican Caribbean continue to be the United States, Canada, and, in third place, Mexico. However, she underscored that the domestic market will be key to sustaining hotel occupancy in the coming months.

“Our current bet is that the national market will be the one to maintain this level of hotel occupancy permanence and that the other markets will help us achieve goals even higher than projected,” explained the official.

Among the activities being prepared to maintain visitor attraction are the celebrations for the national holidays in September and the traditional Day of the Dead in November, in addition to events linked to sports and cultural tourism; segments that have shown constant growth in the municipality.

The Secretary of Tourism detailed that, in addition to international promotion, the department seeks to strengthen connections with Mexican cities. “We are working with municipalities such as Tijuana, Querétaro, and Puebla to generate synergies and tourist exchange campaigns. Not necessarily through sister-city agreements, as these require council processes and budgets, but rather through letters of friendship that allow for joint promotional actions,” she stated.

Furthermore, the official revealed that the "México en Playa del Carmen" program is being promoted, which will gain greater strength in 2026 with the participation of six states from the country that will present their cultural and tourist offerings in the destination.
