Cancún, Mexico — The 19th edition of the Festival of Life and Death Traditions at Xcaret will take place from October 30 to November 2 under the theme “Dancing Souls,” with Michoacán as the guest state and a closing performance by Los Ángeles Azules.
Activities Begin October 29
Leticia Aguerrebere, the festival’s general director, stated that events will commence on October 29 at the Teatro de la Ciudad in Playa del Carmen before continuing at Grupo Xcaret hotels and Xcaret Park throughout the main festival days.
“This year, we will welcome a highly representative artistic and cultural delegation from Michoacán, sharing their rituals, dances, musical expressions, and, of course, their traditional cuisine,” Aguerrebere said.
Gastronomy as a Central Focus
One of the festival’s key highlights will be a culinary showcase featuring 24 traditional cooks—12 from Michoacán and 12 from Maya communities in Quintana Roo—offering over 50 regional dishes. Additionally, 23 artisan stalls will be set up, 17 of which will showcase Michoacán’s crafts, including textiles, pottery, woven fibers, jewelry, carved wood, and silverwork.
More than 250 cultural and artistic activities are scheduled across the five-day celebration, solidifying the festival as one of Mexico’s most emblematic Day of the Dead events.
Los Ángeles Azules to Close the Festival
The festival will conclude on November 2 at 10 p.m. with a performance by Los Ángeles Azules at the Gran Tlachco in Xcaret Park. Tickets will go on sale starting August 8 via the official event website, www.festivaldevidaymuerte.com, with special discounts for Quintana Roo residents. Organizers urged attendees to purchase tickets exclusively through the official portal to avoid fraud.
