Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz led the inauguration of the "Garden of Experience," a therapeutic space designed for seniors at the Nohoch Uinic Elderly Care Center. The project, developed by the local DIF (Integral Family Development System), aims to provide sensory and emotional stimulation through gardening while promoting environmental awareness.

A Space for Connection and Well-Being

The garden features ornamental plants cultivated by the center’s residents, who will also maintain the space. Mayor Tziu emphasized its dual purpose as a relaxing retreat and a platform for ecological education.

"We are a municipality that still has vast green areas to protect. We don’t turn a blind eye to development projects, but we ensure they are orderly and benefit everyone," she stated during the opening ceremony.

Francisca Jiménez Cantoral, a senior attending the center, expressed gratitude for the initiative, calling it another reason to engage with Nohoch Uinic’s daily activities, which offer companionship and emotional support.

Collaborative Effort

Vanessa López Páez, Director of DIF Puerto Morelos, highlighted the garden’s role as a sanctuary for social interaction and personal growth. She credited Miguel Andrés Can Cupul, head of Community Social Development, for spearheading the project and acknowledged contributions from Aimee Regina Rodríguez Vivas, Secretary of Environment, Animal Welfare, and Sustainable Mobility, who donated the plants.

Local officials, including Councilman Antonio Chuc Pech and community member Mirna Lugo, attended the event. Mayor Tziu joined seniors in planting 55 ornamental specimens, underscoring the garden’s role in fostering self-esteem, responsibility, and emotional resilience.

The "Garden of Experience" marks Puerto Morelos’ latest effort to enhance quality of life for its aging population while reinforcing environmental stewardship.
