Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — On the occasion of its 175th anniversary, Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde has called on residents to enthusiastically participate in the 2025 Founding Festivities, a celebration honoring the municipality’s history, traditions, and community spirit. The events will begin on Friday, August 1, and extend for over two weeks, featuring cultural, artistic, sporting, and religious activities designed for all segments of the population.
A Celebration of Heritage and Unity
“We want everyone to enjoy these festivities without distinction. Let our roots resonate with joy and dignity. This anniversary is an opportunity to remind ourselves who we are, where we come from, and where we are headed,” Mayor Gómez Ricalde stated.
The inauguration will take place on Friday at 7:00 p.m. with the opening of the Ticul con Encanto Fair at the Monumento a La Trigueña, showcasing the artisanal and cultural richness of the state of Yucatán.
Festivities Spanning Two Weeks
The celebrations will run from August 1 to August 17, with highlights including:
- Saturday, August 2: The traditional Noche de las Embajadoras and the crowning of the 2025 Embajadora at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Plaza.
- Sunday, August 3: The opening of the photographic exhibition Isla Mujeres, ayer, hoy y siempre (Isla Mujeres, Yesterday, Today, and Forever), a visual retrospective of the island’s historical evolution.
Mayor Gómez Ricalde emphasized that all activities were designed to foster intergenerational connections and promote local pride. “These festivities belong to the people and are for the people. They are crafted with respect, love for our traditions, and with our families in mind,” she affirmed.
Grand Finale Concert
The program will culminate with a free concert by Edwin Luna y La Trakalosa de Monterrey on Saturday, August 16, at 10:00 p.m. in the Municipal Plaza.
The mayor extended an invitation to both residents and visitors to celebrate with joy and responsibility: “It is time to celebrate who we are and share it with the world,” she concluded.
