Playa del Carmen’s New LGBT+ Guide Boosts Inclusive Tourism

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The city is preparing to release an innovative tourism guide specifically tailored for the LGBT+ community in August. The guide aims to promote inclusive businesses and spaces that foster both social interaction and support for this population.

The project is being coordinated with the Secretary of Tourism and is timed to coincide with the "Mexican Pride Awards," scheduled for August 23 at the Teatro de la Ciudad.

A Commitment to Inclusivity

José Gabriel Pérez Álvarez, Municipal Director of Sexual Diversity, emphasized the significance of the initiative. He stated that the guide will feature a curated selection of restaurants, bars, and cafés that identify as "gay friendly." The effort responds to the growing number of establishments seeking to welcome and celebrate sexual diversity, fostering an environment of acceptance and respect.

During an interview, Pérez Álvarez highlighted the inclusion of a new concept in the region’s culinary offerings: an ice cream parlor that has opened two locations and has already expressed interest in being featured in the guide. Additionally, several restaurants have shown enthusiasm for participation, particularly those developing projects or workshops focused on promoting sexual diversity.
