Cancún, Quintana Roo — A total of 302 motorcycles were impounded in Cancún following traffic enforcement operations conducted by the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit of Benito Juárez.

Carlos Ernesto D’Amiano Sumuano, head of the agency, stated that the vehicles were removed from circulation due to missing required documentation.

Enforcement Targets Unregistered Motorcycles

Two days prior, a checkpoint operation in two locations resulted in 16 motorcycles being impounded in a single night.

“The primary violations include missing registration cards, lack of license plates, and unlicensed drivers,” D’Amiano Sumuano explained. “In some cases, riders lacked all necessary paperwork.”

The impoundments aim to encourage motorcyclists to regularize their documentation and comply with legal requirements for operating their vehicles.

Crackdown on Crime and Reckless Riding

The operation, titled “Vidas en Movimiento, Seguridad Vial para Motociclistas” (“Lives in Motion, Road Safety for Motorcyclists”), also seeks to reduce crimes involving motorcycles. Authorities noted frequent reports of stolen motorcycles used by criminals, often with two riders committing offenses before fleeing.

Additionally, residents have reported motorcyclists performing dangerous stunts, endangering public safety. The operations aim to verify that all motorcycles on Cancún’s roads have proper documentation and to identify stolen vehicles.

Continued Random Inspections

Random inspections will continue to regulate the growing number of motorcycles in the city and enforce traffic laws.
