Mexico City, Mexico — Marriott International is reinforcing its presence in the Caribbean and Latin America with a strategic focus on luxury all-inclusive resorts, according to Uriel Burak, Vice President of Development for the region. In an exclusive interview with EQUIPAR, Burak outlined the company’s expansion plans, emphasizing the growing demand for high-end, hassle-free travel experiences.
Rising Demand for Luxury All-Inclusive Resorts
Burak noted that the hospitality industry in the region has seen increasing interest in the all-inclusive model, particularly in the luxury segment. “Consumers are increasingly drawn to the all-inclusive concept, but now with a stronger emphasis on exclusivity and premium service,” he said. “Historically, this segment catered to more budget-conscious travelers, but today we see a shift toward elevated experiences with top-tier amenities, gourmet dining, and personalized service.”
Marriott’s success in this segment is exemplified by the recent conversion of the Marriott Cancún into the brand’s first global all-inclusive property. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we have additional projects in development under this model,” Burak stated. “Modern travelers seek convenience and seamless experiences, and our all-inclusive offerings deliver just that, backed by Marriott’s reputation for quality.”
Recent and Upcoming Openings
Among recent openings, Burak highlighted Almare, a Luxury Collection All-Inclusive Resort in Isla Mujeres, which marked Marriott’s 500th property in the region. Another key addition is Paraíso de la Bonita, a Luxury Collection Resort, Riviera Maya, an adults-only all-inclusive property that underscores the company’s commitment to luxury hospitality.
“These properties redefine hospitality in the region, offering guests unique experiences, bespoke service, and world-class culinary offerings,” Burak explained.
Further expansion includes Bloom Tulum, Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy, and Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Costa Rica, which integrates luxury with sustainability in the biodiverse Papagayo Peninsula. “This project not only strengthens our regional footprint but also sets a benchmark for eco-conscious luxury,” Burak added.
Marriott is also prioritizing strategic destinations such as Mexico’s Caribbean coast, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. “The growth in Quintana Roo and Yucatán has been remarkable, with developments in Tulum, Riviera Maya, Cancún, and Isla Mujeres,” Burak said. “The new Tulum airport has been instrumental in boosting demand, benefiting both the hospitality sector and local economies.”
Conversions and Future Projects
In Puerto Vallarta, Marriott is converting its Marriott and Westin properties into all-inclusive resorts. The company is also developing a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the region, which Burak described as a game-changer for luxury hospitality.
Los Cabos is another focal point, with the recent opening of the St. Regis Quivira and the addition of Hacienda del Mar to the Autograph Collection. “We’re exploring opportunities in Todos Santos and Cabo del Este, where we see significant potential for luxury and exclusive experiences,” Burak noted.
Sustainability Commitments
Sustainability remains a cornerstone of Marriott’s expansion strategy. “We’ve integrated sustainability into every aspect of our operations, from construction to daily hotel management,” Burak said. “Our goals include halving carbon emissions by 2030 and implementing initiatives to reduce water and energy consumption, as well as food waste.”
The company is adopting renewable energy systems and advanced recycling programs to minimize environmental impact. “Our aim is to operate responsibly while delivering exceptional guest experiences,” Burak emphasized.
Continued Growth and Leadership
With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Marriott International aims to maintain its leadership in Caribbean and Latin American hospitality. “Infrastructure is expanding, demand is rising, and we remain committed to offering unparalleled experiences in the region’s most sought-after destinations,” Burak concluded. “Our dedication to excellence and forward-thinking strategies ensures we stay at the forefront of the industry.”
