Cancún, Quintana Roo — Recognized as one of the region’s most emblematic sporting and tourism events, the International Fishing Tournament "Cancún, Quintana Roo" will celebrate its 15th edition on June 13 and 14 at Marina Hacienda del Mar. Organizers anticipate the participation of more than 200 anglers aboard 40 vessels.
The tournament is supported by the newspaper Quintana Roo Hoy, part of Grupo Cantón, which is committed to promoting sports, maritime culture, and the identity of the Mexican Caribbean. Organized by the Nautical Associates of Quintana Roo (ANQR A.C.), the event not only fosters responsible sport fishing and off-season tourism but also pays tribute to the pioneers of the state’s nautical sector.
This year’s edition will be dedicated to Don Diego de la Peña, a visionary businessman who left an indelible mark on Cancún before passing away at the age of 90 on November 2, 2024. In addition to fishing competitions, the tournament will feature recreational activities open to the public on the beach, encouraging family participation and community engagement.
"The tournament is a platform that strengthens social ties, promotes responsible tourism, and honors our maritime history. We want the world to know that Cancún has deep roots and a sea full of tradition," said Eng. Francisco Carim Fernández Millán, president of ANQR A.C.
Since its inception in 2011, the tournament has grown in prestige and participation, receiving support from all three levels of government and being showcased at international fairs such as FITUR in Madrid, Spain. In 2024, the event solidified its identity as the "Cancún, Quintana Roo Fishing Tournament," representing the entire nautical community.
The official competition will take place on Saturday, June 14, while the Captains’ Dinner will be held on Friday, June 13, finalizing logistical details for the highly anticipated celebration.
