Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Italian community, with the support of Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado, is preparing to host the eighth edition of the Italian Cultural Festival on June 13 and 14 at the Teatro de La Ciudad. The event will feature a unique adaptation of Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece The Divine Comedy, directed by Clínzia Martina and performed by over 30 artists.
A Celebration of Italian Culture and Gastronomy
During a press conference, Municipal Tourism Secretary Estefania Hernández announced that the festival will also include Sagra de la Dolcevita, a culinary showcase inspired by Italian villages. Local restaurants will serve authentic pasta, pizza, and other traditional dishes in a dedicated space at the Teatro de la Ciudad.
“We want everyone to experience this unique celebration of our roots and the magic of theater,” Hernández said. “In addition to the performances, there will be 25 visual art pieces on display. Our dream is to fill all 700 seats of the Teatro de la Ciudad and continue strengthening cultural tourism.”
Hernández emphasized that the festival not only brings culture to families but also fosters artistic development for children and youth, creating life-changing opportunities.
A Theatrical Journey Through The Divine Comedy
Clínzia Martina, the festival’s artistic director, highlighted that the event, held since 2009, celebrates Italy’s cultural richness and promotes artistic exchange between Italy and Mexico. The adaptation of The Divine Comedy will take audiences on a journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, offering an emotionally powerful theatrical experience.
Martina, also the director of the Academia On Stage, described the musical-theatrical production as one of the festival’s greatest challenges and achievements. The cast includes singers, actors, and a choir, featuring talents such as Silvia Loza, Alondra Astrid, Carolina Rivera, Abril Gálvez, and Salvador Rivas.

The festival is backed by sponsors including Romeo Schiff, Creative, María Gallo Production, Hierba Santa Showtime, Casa Sofía, Pastelería y Café Casa Sofía, Emporio del Helado, Salón 3D, the International Film and Series Festival production team, and the Honorary Consulate of the Italian Republic.
