Mexico City — The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) has announced the rebranding of the Olmeca-Maya-Mexica Airport, Railway, Auxiliary Services, and Related Group (GAFSACOMM) as Grupo Mundo Maya. The change is part of a strategy to make the organization more appealing to the tourism sector.

A Strategic Rebranding for Tourism

According to an official statement, the rebranding reflects a comprehensive vision to strengthen institutional and commercial operations, enhance tourism promotion, and improve the positioning of services offered by the group nationwide. These services include the management of regional airports, hotels, parks, and museums.

Additionally, Sedena awarded Delgado Cortés y Asociados a contract worth 9.1 million pesos for "accompaniment, diagnosis, and intervention in culture and service" for the hotels now under Grupo Mundo Maya.

Tourism Secretary Supports the Initiative

The name change had been previously hinted at by Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez, who is leading efforts to promote new infrastructure and tourism products under Sedena’s administration. The goal is to boost awareness among both Mexican and international visitors.

Adolfo Héctor Tonatiuh Velasco Bernal, director of Grupo Mundo Maya, stated in a press release, "With this rebranding, we reaffirm our mission to connect and promote the natural, historical, and cultural wealth of southeastern Mexico. Grupo Mundo Maya encapsulates our purpose and essence, projecting a strong, clear, and representative brand to the world."

The move aligns with broader efforts to revitalize tourism in the region, leveraging the cultural and historical significance of the Maya civilization.
