30 Sick After Eating Tacos in Yucatán Market

Seyé, Yucatán — At least 30 people suffered intoxication in this municipality on Sunday after consuming head tacos at the municipal market, requiring emergency treatment at the local health center.

Symptoms and Municipal Response

The affected individuals exhibited symptoms including vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Seyé Mayor Wendy Cauich Cauich confirmed that authorities provided support to the victims, including transportation, medical diagnosis, and health monitoring.

The mayor stated that the municipal government remains on alert for additional cases. She also reported that the incident has been formally communicated to the Yucatán Ministry of Health (SSY). Health inspectors are expected to arrive on Monday to examine all food stalls in and around the municipal market.

Previous Incident Recalled

This is not the first such occurrence in Seyé. On June 12, 2022, approximately 500 people were poisoned after eating cochinita (slow-roasted pork) at the same market. Despite the high number of cases, no fatalities were reported in that incident.

Authorities have not yet identified the specific contaminant responsible for the latest outbreak. Investigations are ongoing.
