Telchac Puerto, Yucatán — Sailors from Quintana Roo have etched an indelible mark in Mexican sports history by securing back-to-back championships at the CONADE National Olympics. The victory, achieved in Telchac Puerto, Yucatán, marks a significant milestone: the team’s ninth title in Mexico’s most prestigious sporting event, solidifying Quintana Roo as a dominant force in competitive sailing.
A Medal Haul for the Record Books
With an impressive tally of 9 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze medals, Quintana Roo’s delegation celebrated their success at the National Championship. The standout performances were led by sailors from Playa del Carmen under the guidance of Pan American National Team coach Jerónimo Abogado, alongside athletes from Bacalar and Benito Juárez. This achievement was the result of a coordinated effort between the Quintana Roo Sailing Association and the Quintana Roo Sports Commission.
The gold medals were secured across multiple disciplines. In the IQFoil category, Jerónimo Abogado and Mateo Cortez claimed first place, while Mikaela Acuña and Francesca Toma triumphed in the Optimist class. Bacalar’s Emiliano Galassini and Otis Bale also contributed to the gold tally.
In the Team Race category, the Quintana Roo squad—comprising Otis Bale, Mia Acuña, María Tovar, Diego Cabrera, and Sebastián Lawrence González—dominated to take the top spot. Andrés López and Sofía del Paso rounded out the gold medal count with victories in the ILCA class. Notably, the nine gold medals secured the team’s ninth outright national championship.
Regional Contributions to Victory
A breakdown of the medal distribution highlights Playa del Carmen’s dominance with six golds, four silvers, and three bronces. Bacalar added two golds, while Benito Juárez contributed three silvers and three bronzes.
During the awards ceremony, Adriana Quiterio Carrillo, president of the Quintana Roo Sailing Association, accepted the trophy certifying their 2025 national championship. With this performance, Quintana Roo has now amassed 39 medals in the overall CONADE National Olympics standings, securing a place in the competition’s Top Ten.
