90 Sewing Machines Empower Women in Nuevo Noh-Bec

Playa del Carmen, MX — Municipal President Estefanía Mercado oversaw a landmark event this Saturday in the rural community of Nuevo Noh-Bec, distributing 90 sewing machines to local women as part of the FARO (Strengthening Trades) program. The initiative, coordinated with the state government, aims to foster self-employment and bolster family economies in the long-overlooked region.

A Commitment to Economic Empowerment

Accompanied by Jorge Carlos Aguilar Osorio, Secretary of Rural Agricultural Development and Fisheries, and Karla Euan, General Coordinator of Welfare Programs, Mercado emphasized the administration’s hands-on approach to supporting grassroots economic development.

"Women are the productive heart of our communities. We don’t come here to make promises—we come to deliver. This isn’t about handouts; it’s about justice. Every woman has a real opportunity to get ahead through her effort, her talent, and the support of a government that operates on the ground, not behind a desk," Mercado declared to residents of Nuevo Noh-Bec and neighboring towns, including Girasoles, Valle Encantado, La Flecha, Los Almendros, and Jacinto Canek.

Distribution and Additional Services

The sewing machines were allocated to women preselected for their basic sewing skills and entrepreneurial drive. The symbolic handover to five representatives took place at Amparo Matías Elementary School, alongside a Municipal Welfare Caravan offering free preventive health services, legal consultations, agricultural support, DIF (District of Income) procedures, and community activities.

State and municipal officials present included Jesús Rodríguez, Director General of the DIF (National Institute of Statistics and Census), Deyanira Martínez, Secretary of Social Justice and Citizen Participation, Alejandro López, Director of Agricultural Affairs, and José Antonio Pérez, Director of Markets.

Continued Engagement with Rural Communities

Following the ceremony, Mercado toured the service modules, spoke with beneficiary families, and met with local agricultural producers. She reiterated her administration’s dedication to inclusive governance, stating, "We will continue to promote agricultural development, improving marketing channels, opening avenues for productivity, and valuing the labor of those who produce the food on our tables."

The event underscores the government’s pledge to extend development initiatives to rural areas, ensuring well-being, social equity, and economic opportunities reach every corner of Playa del Carmen.
