Young Mexican Swimmer Iker Galindo Wins Gold at Panam Aquatics

Medellín, Colombia — In a standout performance highlighting Mexico’s rising athletic talent, young swimmer Iker Galindo García made history by securing the gold medal in the 3-kilometer Open Water event for the 12-13 age category at the international championship Panam Aquatics 2025, held in Medellín, Colombia. This achievement elevates not only his name but also the reputation of Quintana Roo and Mexico in the sporting world.

A Triumph for Quintana Roo and Mexico

Hailing from Cancún, Iker competed with the support of the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (CODEQ), led by Jacobo Arzate Hop. The commission has worked tirelessly to promote local talent under the New Agreement for Wellbeing and Development, an initiative spearheaded by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa. This institutional backing has been crucial in enabling athletes like Iker to compete internationally and showcase their abilities.

During the competition at Laguna Guatapé, Galindo delivered an outstanding performance, completing the intense and thrilling race in 39 minutes and 35 seconds. His efforts secured him a decisive victory, with second place going to Miguel Ortega Espíritu from the State of Mexico, who finished in 40 minutes and 15 seconds.

A Prestigious International Event

The championship brought together athletes from 19 countries, with Mexico fielding a delegation of 21 competitors and 6 coaches. Thanks to Iker’s impressive performance, Mexico surpassed host nation Colombia in the medal standings, securing a total of 47 gold medals.
