Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man identified as Gonzalo Alfredo Catzín Ramírez has been sentenced to a combined 14 years and one month in prison for sexually abusing a minor in Playa del Carmen. The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the ruling, which also includes substantial financial penalties.
Details of the Sentencing
After evaluating the evidence presented, a judge issued two separate sentences against Catzín Ramírez. The first sentence imposes a prison term of eight years, seven months, and 15 days, while the second adds five years and six months behind bars. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a fine exceeding 17,000 pesos (approximately $850 USD) for the crime of sexual abuse against a minor.
The prosecutor’s office stated that the judicial authority also mandated Catzín Ramírez to pay 28,000 pesos in moral reparations for the quantitative aspect of the damages and 24,000 pesos for the qualitative aspect.
Background of the Case
The crimes occurred in March 2021 and August 2022 at the victim’s residence in the Américas 1 subdivision of Playa del Carmen. The victim, a male minor whose identity remains protected, suffered abuse at the hands of the convicted individual.
The case was prosecuted by the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office, which successfully demonstrated Catzín Ramírez’s responsibility for the offenses.
