Cancún, Quintana Roo — The 13th edition of the Festival of the Oceans will take place from June 8 to 14 across various locations in Quintana Roo, coinciding with World Oceans Day celebrations. Organized by Delphinus, the event has promoted dialogue on marine ecosystem health through a multidisciplinary program featuring concerts, exhibitions, competitions, and educational activities since its inception.
A Decade of Environmental Advocacy
For over a decade, the festival has engaged thousands of participants and earned prestigious accolades, including the National Award for Ecological Merit in the Non-Formal Environmental Education category, as well as honorable mentions in international corporate sustainability competitions.
This year’s edition will offer a diverse lineup of activities for all audiences. The festivities will commence on Sunday, June 8, with the Concert for the Ocean at Cancún’s City Theater. The Symphony Orchestra and Choir of Mexico’s National Defense Secretariat will perform a tribute to the oceans, accompanied by an audiovisual presentation showcasing marine biodiversity and conservation messages.
Miguel Canseco, Director of Responsibility and Communication for Delphinus, confirmed that the opening event will also award winners of the Fourth University Short Film Competition for the Ocean, which recognizes creative initiatives by environmentally committed university students.
Engaging the Next Generation
Additional highlights include the Children and Youth Drawing Contest, launching on Tuesday, June 10, at Terminals 2 and 4 of Cancún International Airport. The contest highlights young participants’ perspectives on the ocean’s significance and aims to raise awareness among national and international travelers about marine conservation.
On Wednesday, June 11, the First Sustainable Fishing Workshop will be held at the University of the Caribbean, featuring expert-led discussions on responsible fishing and aquaculture practices.
The festival will conclude on Saturday, June 14, with a beach cleanup at Punta Brava in Puerto Morelos, directly contributing to the protection of coastal ecosystems.
