Querétaro Stars in Playa del Carmen’s Cultural Week

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Playa del Carmen has taken a historic step toward establishing itself as a hub for cultural tourism in Mexico with the launch of "México en Playa," a new program spearheaded by Mayor Estefanía Mercado. The initiative aims to diversify the city’s tourism offerings, bolster the local economy, and advance an inclusive vision under the slogan "Todos Incluidos" (All Included).

Querétaro Takes Center Stage

The inaugural edition of "México en Playa" will feature Querétaro as its first guest state. Recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity site and a Learning City, Querétaro has also been commended by UN-Habitat for its sustainability policies.

Representing Mayor Mercado, Municipal Tourism Secretary Estefanía Hernández unveiled the program, emphasizing its role in showcasing Mexico’s cultural diversity. Martha Daniela Salgado, Secretary of Culture for Querétaro, welcomed the opportunity to share her state’s artistic, heritage, and artisanal wealth. "Culture not only beautifies but also unites, heals, and enriches," Salgado stated during the announcement.

A Week of Music, Theater, and Art

The Querétaro Cultural Week will run from May 24 to 31 at Plaza 28 de Julio, a landmark location in Playa del Carmen. The seven-day event will include performances by musical groups such as Madera Viva, Korazound, Blues de la Conexión, and Borreón Huasteco. Attendees can also expect theater productions, oral storytelling, art exhibitions, and displays of traditional crafts.

Ernesto Martínez Cuéllar, Director of Playa del Carmen’s Institute of Culture and the Arts, highlighted the program’s broader mission: "‘México en Playa’ is not just about enhancing the visitor experience but also about strengthening the collective identity of our municipality. Playa del Carmen is now a multicultural window to the world, and this program opens doors to exchange, connection, and pride in being Mexican."

A Year-Round Cultural Agenda

The event is part of an annual calendar that will dedicate future weeks to other Mexican states, including Oaxaca, Yucatán, Nuevo León, and Puebla. The initiative seeks to solidify Playa del Carmen’s reputation as a meeting point for art and living culture in the heart of the Mexican Caribbean.

Through "México en Playa," the municipal government reaffirms its commitment to transforming tourism into a driver of shared prosperity, identity, and social justice for all.
