Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa inaugurated the new Xiimbal Park in Cancún, a project designed to strengthen community ties and provide recreational space for over 10,600 residents. The park, located in Supermanzana 249, was developed on land donated by the company RUBA, with its plaza director, Alberto Barriba Cazares, attending the ceremony.
A Space for Social Reconnection
Governor Lezama emphasized that Xiimbal—meaning "stroll" in Mayan—symbolizes the park’s purpose as a place to rebuild social bonds and foster community engagement.
"Xiimbal is what we want this park to be—a space where we can reconstruct the social fabric, build community, and see young people and adults playing soccer, basketball, volleyball, running, or enjoying the playground," Lezama told attendees.
The governor was joined by Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo, and Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, municipal president of Benito Juárez. Together, they urged residents to utilize the park responsibly and maintain its condition to prevent vandalism. Lezama praised the efforts of neighborhood committees in safeguarding the area.
A Commitment to Public Welfare
Lezama reiterated her administration’s dedication to a "humanist government with a feminist heart," stating, "This is about shared responsibility, ensuring public funds return to the people—because we do not steal, lie, or betray the public. Your families and children matter to us."
Ana Paty Peralta recalled how the park came to fruition after residents voiced their need for recreational space during a peace-building initiative. When Grupo RUBA approached her with a proposal to equip the donated land, the project was swiftly approved. The first stone was laid on February 14, and the park now stands as a completed commitment.
Grupo RUBA’s Contribution
Alberto Barriba Cazares, Grupo RUBA’s plaza director, stated that the park aligns with the company’s mission to enhance quality of life through integrated developments. "This space provides children, youth, and adults an environment for recreation, coexistence, and collective growth," he said.
The park features green areas, playgrounds, shaded seating, a multipurpose field, and a sports track. Its opening marks a significant step in Cancún’s urban development, offering a dedicated venue for leisure and community activities.
