Origins of Pride Month

June 28 is recognized as International LGBT+ Pride Day, a date promoting tolerance, equality, and dignity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals. The observance traces its roots to the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, a pivotal moment in the gay liberation movement.

Since then, Pride marches have been held annually in cities worldwide, including Mexico City, which hosted its first Pride march in June 1979.

The Pride marches in Yucatán will coincide with these and other regional developments, reinforcing the state’s commitment to visibility and advocacy for the LGBT+ community.
