2 Men Get 37 Years for Brutal Cancún Homicide

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Two men, identified as Luis Gerardo Poot Domínguez, alias “El Gera,” 24, and Gerson Giovanny Villanueva Serrano, alias “El Chilango,” 23, have been sentenced to 37 years and six months in prison for the brutal homicide of a 40-year-old man named Eric in Cancún. The sentencing was announced by Quintana Roo Attorney General Raciel López Salazar during a press conference held as part of the Security Council’s briefing.

A Particularly Violent Crime

According to the Attorney General, the crime was marked by extreme violence. The perpetrators decapitated Eric with machetes and knives while he was still alive. They then dismembered his body, severing his arms, legs, and head, before placing the remains in black plastic bags and storing them in a cooler.

The homicide is believed to be linked to disputes between criminal groups involved in drug trafficking and extortion, as stated by López Salazar. The case was presented before an oral trial judge, who, after reviewing the evidence, handed down the guilty verdict.

Ongoing Investigations

Authorities confirmed that investigations will continue to identify and prosecute additional individuals connected to the criminal network responsible for the killing.
