Quintana Roo Teachers’ Strike Stalls Education!

The ongoing teachers' strike in Quintana Roo, which began on February 27, 2025, continues to leave over 400,000 elementary and high school students without classes. Despite the state government's efforts to negotiate, the teachers persist in their strike. They demand written assurances that their requests will be met and their salaries will not be withheld.

The strike originated as a protest against the reform of the ISSSTE Law, which the teachers believe infringes on their worker's rights. Although President Claudia Sheinbaum has since abolished the reform, the teachers continue to strike, expressing doubts that their demands will be fully addressed.

While some schools have recommenced their activities, the final decision hinges on future meetings between the teachers and government officials. Despite announcements from the Collegiate of Bachelors and CBTIS suggesting a potential return to school on March 31st, the future of the strike remains unclear.
