Mayor Atenea Gómez's administration has extended the Ongoing Junk Disposal Program to Fridays, in addition to the original Wednesday schedule. This initiative benefits various neighborhoods in both the Island and Continental Zone.

Santiago Quiñonez, the general director of Public Services, stated that on Friday, March 28, the program was implemented in the Girasoles, San Román, Monte de Olivo, Jerusalén, Tamayo, and Rancherita neighborhoods in the Continental Zone. Additionally, it was carried out in the Ampliación La Gloria, Meteorológico, and Salina Chica neighborhoods on the Island. Over the course of the week, the program successfully collected 10 tons of junk.

Mayor Gómez emphasized the significance of this program to her administration. She noted that it not only promotes cleanliness but also plays a vital role in preventing vector-borne diseases such as dengue and Zika. By eliminating objects that can accumulate water, the program aims to reduce mosquito breeding grounds, thereby protecting the health and welfare of the island's residents.

Quiñonez expressed gratitude to the residents of the mentioned neighborhoods for their active participation in the cleaning day. He praised them for taking their unwanted items to the street for collection. He stressed that community collaboration is crucial for the success of this initiative. "Together, we can contribute to maintaining the beauty of our island and creating a healthier environment for all," Quiñonez said.
