Yucatán Govt Boosts Agriculture with Innovative Programs

An audience of agricultural workers wearing hats, sitting and standing, is applauding at an indoor event celebrating the Day of the Agricultural Producer with agricultural equipment on display in the foreground.

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena has unveiled a series of programs aimed at bolstering the agricultural sector in Yucatán. These initiatives are designed to assist small and medium-sized producers by providing them with new technologies and resources.

Initiatives for Farm Mechanization

The rural co-investment scheme includes the Soil Mechanization Program, which has already distributed aids worth over 9.6 million pesos. In its initial phase, six tractors equipped with agricultural tools were delivered to producer organizations across the state.

Sustainable Irrigation Systems

On the occasion of Field Producer's Day, Díaz Mena introduced a progressive program for hydro-agricultural infrastructure. This includes solar-powered irrigation systems which will benefit small producers by enabling them to irrigate up to 10,000 hectares using submersible pumps and one-hectare systems.

Infrastructure and Local Production Enhancements

From the Xmatkuil International Fair, the Governor announced plans to repair harvest roads in the central and southern regions of the state. Additionally, a Backyard Production program will provide resources for family gardens and poultry, benefiting over 2,000 families.

Support for Livestock and Beekeeping

The government will also amplify support for livestock, with increased subsidies for the purchase of bovine and ovine sires. In addition, local beekeeping will be enhanced with strategies to ensure the safety and fair pricing of honey, along with the import of genetic material from Brazil to improve production quality.

Prioritizing Women Producers

Díaz Mena emphasized that women producers will receive ongoing support with resources for agricultural and livestock activities, reaffirming his commitment to equal opportunities in the rural sector.

A Pledge to Agricultural Development

"Agricultural producers are the driving force of our state's development. You can count on my government's support in all regions of Yucatán," said Díaz Mena.

Through these initiatives, the Yucatán Government aims not only to rejuvenate agriculture, but to establish it as a cornerstone of the state's economic and social development.
