Mérida, Yucatán — Yucatán has secured six nominations in the eighth edition of the “Lo Mejor de México” (Best of Mexico) awards, organized by the magazine México Desconocido, reinforcing its status as a leading tourism destination with diverse experiences.
Darío Flota Ocampo, head of the Secretariat of Tourism Development (Sefotur), explained that these nominations reflect coordinated efforts to strengthen the state’s tourism offerings through a comprehensive and sustainable approach.
The nominations include Izamal for Best Magical Town to host a wedding, Valladolid for Best Magical Town for a gastronomic experience, and Yucatán as the Best state to enjoy regional and contemporary cuisine.
Sisal is nominated as Best Magical Town for a nature adventure experience, Maní competes in the Best hidden gem destination category, and the experience of admiring the ancient grandeur of Chichén Itzá is among the nominations for the top three experiences to have in Mexico at least once in a lifetime.
Voting for the awards remains open until April 20, with results to be announced on April 29 during the Tianguis Turístico de México 2026 in Acapulco.
Flota Ocampo noted that these achievements result from a strategy promoted by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena’s administration to boost emerging destinations, support Magical Towns, and diversify experiences, creating economic opportunities for families dependent on tourism.
He added that Yucatán’s participation in these awards not only recognizes its cultural, gastronomic, and natural richness but also reaffirms its competitive positioning nationally and internationally, with tourism serving as an engine of well-being for communities.
