Yucatan Authorities Debunk False Social Media Reports of Violence in Municipalities

Yucatan Public Security Department officials addressing false social media reports

Mérida, Yucatan — Yucatan’s Public Security Department has dismissed social media alerts about alleged criminal incidents in several municipalities, confirming the reports are completely false.

Authorities announced that after verifying with municipal public security directors in the mentioned areas, there are no reports or indications of the described events. The department urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.

The false social media posts claimed violence would affect municipalities including Halachó, Maxcanú, Celestún, Peto and Tekantó, supposedly resulting from the fall of a criminal leader. Officials confirmed these claims are baseless.

In a separate incident, authorities also debunked a fake announcement about indefinite school suspensions in Yucatan. Educational officials stated classes would continue normally throughout the state.

Similarly, false information circulated about operational schedule changes for the Va y Ven public transportation system. The Yucatan Transportation Agency confirmed the reports were untrue and services continue as usual.

Authorities also addressed a video circulating on WhatsApp showing alleged gunfire, clarifying the footage actually came from another state. They confirmed an audio recording with supposed threats circulating on the same platform was also fabricated.

While some reports mentioned detonations near La Isla plaza in Mérida’s Cabo Norte area, officials indicated the incident likely occurred in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.

The Public Security Department urged residents to consult only official channels for confirmed information and avoid spreading unverified content that causes confusion.
