Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo — A dump truck driver attempting to make a U-turn on Federal Highway 307 between Tulum and Playa del Carmen caused a severe collision after cutting off a BMW SUV. The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m., prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene.
Details of the Collision
Authorities arriving at the scene found the BMW SUV severely damaged and the dump truck involved in the crash. The truck driver, an 18-year-old, had attempted to make an illegal U-turn, crossing into the oncoming lane and obstructing the path of the BMW, which had the right of way. Despite the high-speed impact, the BMW driver emerged unharmed.
Paramedics assessed both drivers at the scene and determined that neither required hospitalization. Officers from the National Guard handled the investigation, assigning fault before both vehicles were towed to an impound lot in Playa del Carmen.
No Serious Injuries Reported
Although the crash was dramatic, emergency services confirmed that no individuals needed hospital treatment. The dump truck driver and the BMW operator sustained only minor injuries, which were treated on-site.
The incident highlights ongoing traffic safety concerns along Federal Highway 307, a major thoroughfare in the region. Authorities continue to monitor the area for reckless driving and illegal maneuvers.
