Cancún, Quintana Roo — A woman was shot and killed Wednesday morning while waiting for a bus in Cancún, prompting a large-scale security response from local, state, and federal authorities.

The shooting occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Avenida Tulum, in the Superblock 23 area along the lateral lane between Chichén Itzá and Uxmal avenues.

Police officers and paramedics arrived to find the victim already dead. Authorities cordoned off the area to preserve evidence.

Investigators confirmed the victim was a construction worker who appeared to be waiting for public transportation when two men on a motorcycle approached and shot her directly.

The suspects fled on the motorcycle. No arrests have been made. The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office.
