Fatal Crash on Tulum-Playa del Carmen Highway

Emergency response at the scene of a fatal vehicle overturn on Highway 307

Playa del Carmen — A woman died early Thursday morning after the SUV she was driving overturned on Federal Highway 307, on the stretch between Tulum and Playa del Carmen.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m., when the driver, traveling north to south, lost control while maneuvering at a U-turn at kilometer 273, near the access to Paamul.

The vehicle left the roadway and ended up overturned several meters off the highway.

Municipal Police, National Guard, and rescue teams responded to the scene. Playa del Carmen firefighters had to use the “jaws of life” to free the victim, who was trapped inside the Jeep Liberty. However, paramedics confirmed she no longer showed vital signs.

The area was cordoned off to conduct the corresponding forensic investigation and allow the State Attorney General’s Office to remove the body. The causes of the accident remain under investigation.
