Water Main Break in Chemuyil Threatens Playa del Carmen Supply

Technicians from Aguakan working to repair a water main break in Chemuyil, Quintana Roo.

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A break in a major water main serving this resort city could lead to low pressure or temporary outages for residents, the local utility announced Friday.

The leak occurred Friday morning in a 16-inch water transmission line in the Chemuyil catchment area, which supplies Playa del Carmen. Technical crews from the utility Aguakan responded promptly to the site and are working continuously to make repairs and restore service as quickly as possible.

“Due to these repair works, low pressure or a temporary lack of water may occur in Playa del Carmen,” the company said in a statement.

Aguakan said it will continue to provide timely updates on the progress of the repairs and will notify the public once the work is complete. The company thanked residents for their understanding and reiterated its commitment to service continuity and quality.

For real-time updates, the public can consult Aguakan’s official channels on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) at @DHCAGUAKAN, or call the customer service line at 073.
