Cancún, Mexico — A video circulating on social media has cast doubt on the official version of a recent shootout in Puerto Cancún, where a suspected criminal was wounded by Municipal Police officers. The footage, recorded from one of the residential buildings in Puerto Cancún, shows the individual running into the housing complex before multiple gunshots are heard inside—contradicting the initial police statement that suggested the exchange of gunfire began outside.
Key Discrepancies in the Official Narrative
The video clearly captures the man entering the complex without stopping, followed by private security guards and later a police officer. Shortly after, gunshots are heard. While the footage does not confirm whether the suspect was armed at that moment, it also does not show him firing any shots before entering.
The absence of evidence supporting a prior shootout before his entry, as well as the lack of visible weapons in the clip, has raised questions about the use of force by the pursuing officers. Authorities have yet to clarify whether the suspect fired inside the complex, if there was an exchange of gunfire, or if all shots came from law enforcement.
Authorities Remain Silent Amid Public Scrutiny
The State Attorney General’s Office and the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security have not updated their initial statements, fueling skepticism among citizens and social media users who are demanding a transparent investigation.
The case has reignited debates over excessive use of force, the presumption of innocence, and the need for public accountability when video evidence contradicts official reports.
