Two women have been remanded in custody in Cancún, following their arrest and subsequent connection to a case of human trafficking. The Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office reports that the victim, a 16-year-old girl, had fled her family home due to abuse. She was then sexually exploited by the accused women.
The teenager was lured into a life of prostitution by a friend who offered her work that involved providing sexual services for money. Another woman, who is related to the victim, was involved in procuring more clients for the girl.
The pair were apprehended during a police operation after a report was made against them. During a court hearing, a judge found sufficient evidence to link them to the human trafficking case. As a result, they have been ordered to remain in custody for one year as a preventative measure.
