Two Suspects Arrested After Police Chase in Felipe Carrillo Puerto Over Death Threats

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — Police arrested two men after a high-speed chase through the southern streets of Felipe Carrillo Puerto on Sunday afternoon, following emergency reports of death threats against a family.

Public Security Director Teresa Emigdio Antunes announced that authorities launched the operation after receiving an emergency call about a man threatening a family while arriving in a gray pickup truck. When at least two police patrols approached the scene, the suspects fled in the vehicle along 50th Street.

Officers used loudspeakers to order the driver to stop, but instead he accelerated in an attempt to evade capture. Police then requested backup from state police and the National Guard.

The chase continued until the suspects reached the intersection of 52nd Street between 61st and 61st A, where they entered a property trying to avoid arrest. Authorities first detained a young man who was reportedly just a passenger in the vehicle, and minutes later captured the driver.

One of the detainees, identified as the driver, has been handed over to the Common Jurisdiction Prosecutor’s Office to begin investigations into the threats. The second detainee, the young passenger, was turned over to a Civic Judge for appropriate sanctions.

The operation mobilized municipal police officers, state police, and National Guard personnel. Authorities have not released the identities of either detainee.
