Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The twelfth edition of the Ekinoxio Performing Arts Festival will take place from March 19 to 22 at independent cultural venues in Playa del Carmen and Tulum, featuring theater, puppetry, dance, performance art, music, and circus acts.
The festival will operate on a voluntary contribution model, known as “pay-what-you-can” or “a la gorra consciente.” Organizer Lucía Zverko said the four-day event will feature independent programming at each venue, offering attendees a varied lineup of performances daily.
“It starts on Thursday, March 19, and runs through Sunday, March 22, across four independent venues,” Zverko explained. “Each venue will have its own independent programming so attendees can come daily and enjoy different proposals.”
The festival aims to strengthen the region’s independent cultural scene and highlight the work of artists and venues that promote artistic activities without government funding. Zverko noted that both the creators and participating venues sustain their projects through their own efforts and with support from audiences interested in performing arts.
