In a significant event emphasizing gender equality, the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa, unveiled the "Frida Kahlo by Woman Experiences" Museum in Tulum. This innovative project uses advanced technology to offer an immersive sensory journey through the life and work of the legendary artist Frida Kahlo. The experience is designed to stimulate the senses and immerse visitors in a dramatized environment, fostering a profound emotional connection with Kahlo's history.
The museum serves as more than just a tribute to Frida Kahlo. It also plays a vital role in advocating for female empowerment and gender equality. These themes, which are increasingly relevant in today's society, align with the Action Coalitions of UN Women, reinforcing the global impact of Kahlo's legacy on the fight for gender equality. During the opening ceremony, Governor Lezama reiterated her commitment to combating gender violence, a key priority in her administration's New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo.
Alfonso Durán, the president of the DMG Foundation and CEO of IAP Group Ltd. Florida, underscored the social impact of the project. A portion of the funds raised will be donated to local organizations supporting gender equality and empowering women in vulnerable situations. Durán emphasized the potential of art and culture as catalysts for social change, building bridges within communities worldwide.
In her address, Governor Lezama asserted that Tulum, with its allure for travelers seeking a connection with nature, culture, and shared social transformation goals, is an ideal location for this ambitious project. The museum's opening attracted notable attendees, including Moni Pizani Orsini, a representative of UN Women, and Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of the DIF Quintana Roo System.
Funded by a private investment of 1.5 million dollars, the "Frida Kahlo by Woman Experiences" Museum can host up to 800 visitors daily. It aims to draw 200,000 visitors each year.
